A study evaluated the efficacy of the combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid in treating 25 hospitalized patients with different types of infections, of which urinary tract infection was reported in 8 patients. It was reported that the cure rate among patients with urinary tract infections was 50%. Moreover, 3 of 4 infections caused by amoxicillin-resistant bacteria were cured. It was also documented that the therapy was well tolerated even at relatively high doses of clavulanic acid of upto 1 g/day. Thus, it can be stated that the combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid appears to be a potentially valuable therapeutic option.
